Code of Conduct

We ask that all who work with us abide by the following rules.

These rules were last reviewed and updated on May 13th, 2025. Future changes to rules will be sent via email to those currently on assignment with us.

If you have any questions about these rules or anything about our process, please reach out to editor@girlswhosnap.com.

Assignments

To request to cover a show, please email editor@girlswhosnap.com. Shows must be requested a minimum of 14 days or more before the event. When on assignment with us, a detailed spreadsheet of what has been assigned and what is available will be provided to you to best plan your assignments.

We will reach out to press contacts to submit for assignments on your behalf, and will CC you throughout the process.

Please only request to cover artists and events you are genuinely interested in. We strive to create content that reflects artistry from true fans of the talent we cover!

We welcome coverage of any and all genres, and venues of all sizes.

Submitting Coverage

Show coverage must be emailed to editor@girlswhosnap.com within 48 hours of the event's end. Some promoters may specify a shorter timeframe for coverage to be posted and shared.

15-30 images are required after an event, and they must be in high resolution (INSERT SPECIFIC RESOLUTION HERE) and JPG format. Black and white, and color images are permitted.

Your written article or pre-show coverage may be in PDF or DOCX format. Use of ChatGPT is not permitted. All writing samples should be your own and original work.

We recommend sending coverage via Dropbox or WeTransfer.

Images must be labeled clearly with artist name, venue, date of event, and image number (i.e.: blink182-unitedcenter-12-1-25.jpg).

Your Rights and Sharing Images

We honor our photographer's personal rights to their images. You may use a watermark of your choosing when submitting images for an assignment.

When sharing images to social media, please tag Girls Who Snap.

Venue and Event Etiquette

All venue rules and directions from venue/artist staff/security must be followed. If you are found to have broken any rules, you will be subject to removal from future assignments or ability to cover events with Girls Who Snap.

Above all, be kind and polite. Look out for fellow photographers and help out wherever you can.

If there are issues with your tickets, passes, or access to an event, please reach out to the press contact CC'd during your approval process and editor@girlswhosnap.com.

Assignments must be photographed with professional photo gear, ie: mirrorless or DSLR cameras with detachable lenses. Art filters and prisms are permitted.

In most shows, first three songs are allowed to be photographed from the pit or soundboard without flash. This is subject to change at any time, and we expect anyone on assignment with us to abide by the rules given to them and be respectful to all staff.

Do not photograph from the pit with your backpack or camera bag on. This annoys all concert photographers at some point and we don't want to be *those* people making a shoot difficult for everyone around them!

Do not hog "sweet spots" in the pit from other photographers. We all often times only have a couple minutes to get the shots we need and it's critical to keep moving and share the space with others. Avoid blocking other photographers and remain aware of your surroundings- you never know when I crowd-surfer may come over the railing and bonk you on the head!

Do not wear overly reflective or flashy clothing to assignments. Dark clothing and comfortable footwear is highly recommended.

Location of where you're allowed to shoot from is subject to change and can change last minute. Be prepared to shoot from pit, soundboard, or other locations (crowd, side stage, aisle, etc.). In outdoor venues and festivals, be prepared for inclement weather with appropriate rain covers and footwear.

Some artists throw liquids or other materials into the crowd (think GWAR with their red-dyed water or Insane Clown Posse with their Faygo). Keep this in mind when planning to cover events and ensure you're protecting your clothes and valuable camera gear.

Merch and GSM Marketing

Have fun and spread the word on Girls Who Snap!

We are happy to provide business cards, flyers, stickers, and other merch.

Email editor@girlswhosnap.com to get hooked up with GWS gear to wear and share.

Additional Considerations

Some promoters may ask for images to be approved before posting, a certain number of images to be submitted, certain kinds of images (e.g.: artist angles) to not be shared, ask for exclusive rights to images, etc. We ask that all on staff with us honor these additional rules if they choose to participate in an assignment.

If promoters or other media staff provide an additional written agreement for you to sign, you are welcome to sign if you agree or not sign (and not participate) if you disagree. If you opt out of an event due to a rider or release that you do not agree with, you must reach out to editor@girlswhosnap.com as soon as possible.
