Broadturn Farm & Space Gallery Present: The Homecoming of Lady Lamb and Jacob Augustine
By Savanna Pettengill
Sponsored by Space Gallery and Broadturn Farm, Lady Lamb and Jacob Augustine brought together fans from far and near for a Maine music scene reunion for the ages.
Augustine was a powerhouse with his acoustic guitar, commanding a symphony of crickets, accompanied by bassist Ian Riley. His setlist included fan favorite ballads such as “Mourning Dove”, “Waco” and “The General’s Son/Salvation”. After “Animal Orchard” into “Peace Comes”, Augustine was met with a standing ovation.
The crowd buzzed with laughter, intimate secret sharing, and communal love as Lady Lamb’s Aly Spaltro entered the barn-based stage with the newest iteration of her band: drummer Derek Gearon, and bassist Micah Prussack. She cracked jokes with former bandmates running the show before turning to her bandmates to thank them and encouraging them to have fun with this set. A woven tapestry of hits and deep cuts, some of Lady Lamb’s earliest fans were overhead singing along word-for-word to “Bird Balloons”, “Milk Duds” and “You Are the Apple”.
Spaltro then, through anecdotes about past relationships and the love of farming arrived in a more serious tone filled with direct asks that brought the crowd’s attention to the ails of the world that Music doesn’t always necessarily heal, in particular surrounding the genocide of Palestinians. Spaltro’s voice echoed as she reminded folks it was not only okay but imperative to stand up to these types of injustices.
Her set ended with her newest song of the night, “Truth Teller”, a song written in the face of the grief surrounding the murder of Al Jazeera Journalist, Anas Al-Sharif among others who perished on August 10th of this year.
In completion of her third show of 2025, Spaltro was met with a standing ovation and faced it with a wave and smile before greeting the line of fans at her merch table, eagerly waiting to tell her how her songs have changed their lives, buy merch and enter a raffle to win her Fender guitar she played that night (and for the last 7 years), with proceeds benefitting The Watermelon Seed Collective.
