Chicago Grooves with The Wombats on Their Oh! The Ocean Tour
By Colette Custin Bevard
In support of their most recent album Oh! The Ocean, English rock trio The Wombats brought their upbeat indie rock to the Vic this October weekend for a sold-out Saturday show with a perfect setlist of old and new for fans.
“Happy Halloween!” exclaimed vocalist/guitarist Matthew Murphy, “you guys are fucking beautiful!” Opening with “Sorry I’m Late, I Didn’t Want to Come” and touching on the new album for a few more here and there, the setlist represented most records equally, with highlights that included an acapella “Tales of Girls, Boys, and Marsupials” leading into the “Kill the Director,” “My Head is Not My Friend,” and even a visit from—you guessed it—a trombone-playing wombat who danced about the stage with the band on “Ready for the High.” Who could ask for more?
